《_______》A small exhibition about book production
Last summer, Qimu Space moved from Songzhuang to 751 Park and underwent a comprehensive visual upgrade led by designer Ma Shirui. In the past year, Teacher Ma, as a member of the "Exhibition Visual Group," has been continuously producing refreshing poster designs. In this special project, we handed over the space commonly used for the display of art works to the designer, once again activating the practice of space usage methods.
Ma Shirui will introduce books, which are frequently involved and used in daily life and work, from the perspective of a designer. Design is reflected as a comprehensive creative behavior, and the concepts and decisions of design are often encoded in the visual and material presentation of daily products, ultimately reduced to "style", "aesthetics", or "practical considerations". And this exhibition has separated the content (function), editing, and design of books, only related to the production of books. The exhibition simplifies (or changes) the process involved in producing a book, including:
1. Frame by frame display of a book bound into a volume;
2. Introduction to the demonstration of panel assembly;
3. Display of weight differences in paper materials;
4. Display of format (book size, which is the unit of measurement for book area);
5. A manual book;
6. The "mesh pattern" formed by changes in the angle of the printing dot;
7. Experience of four-color dot stacking imaging
The exhibition starts by understanding how a piece of paper is stacked and bound into a book (a classic material style), hoping to turn to focusing on the behind the things we are accustomed to. Any artificial object will involve a large, complex, and complex production process, with simple results, but the process may not be clear to us.
