I'm Afraid You Dare Not to Blame Me Genuinely
"I'm Afraid You Dare Not to Blame Me Genuinely" is presented by artist 1ceas and writer siqi at Qimu Space, aiming to challenge the reliance on textual interpretation for the construction of the concept of works in contemporary art exhibitions. Since Marcel Duchamp, the activity of interpreting works of art has become the decisive judgment of the intrinsic value of artworks, which allows everyday objects to become art, and constructing an ideology or an implied concept has become a necessary part of artistic production.
Each piece in the exhibition corresponds to a text written by siqi in various styles. Through this intervention, the works are associated with different contexts, reflecting on the dominant role that texts perform in the process of constructing and interpreting the meaning of the works. The tension formed between the text and the work is intended to create a dynamic space for feeling and imagination, bringing the observation back to the artwork itself. Meanwhile, the artist expects to receive genuine feedback and scrutiny from the viewer during this exhibition, to see and be seen honestly with each other.
The exhibited pieces reflect 1ceas's unique artistic language. The industrial visual elements featured in works as Remain Silence (2019) and Contemporary Art Driver (2020) are rooted in the aesthetic style shaped by her upbringing. She has always resisted imitation and homogenization in doing art, and instead has used her personal perspective and methodology to create a dialogue with society, also seeks to interact and interfere with various institutional structures and value orientations in the production, reception, promotional, consumption behavior and system of art.
